Extracurricular activities 2026-2027: why coding deserves a spot

Back-to-school is approaching, and with it the question of the year's extracurricular schedule. Sport, music, languages, coding: options are plentiful, available time isn't. Rather than pitching coding as "the" essential activity, here's an honest answer to a simple question: what does it specifically bring that other activities don't?

Sport and music already do what they do very well

Sport develops coordination, endurance, teamwork and a physical discipline hard to get elsewhere. Music develops the ear, the patience of repetition, a form of expression with no digital equivalent. These aren't "outdated" activities compared to coding — they're activities that build skills coding doesn't touch.

What coding specifically brings

Programming develops a different skill: breaking down a complex problem into precise steps, and tolerance for error as a normal part of the process (code almost never works on the first try — that's the norm, not a failure). It's also one of the few activities where a child can, alone, turn an abstract idea into something concrete and functional — a game, a website, an animation — without depending on expensive equipment or a group.

It's a genuinely STEM approach: the same logical, methodical foundations that serve equally well in maths and science, whatever the child ends up doing later.

A format that fits easily into an already busy schedule

That's often the real obstacle to a new activity: more travel, more fixed slots to fit in. A 100% online format, with flexible slots between 9am and 7pm, avoids this problem — no extra travel, a schedule that adjusts around sport or music rather than competing with them.

Concretely, for this school year

We welcome children from age 7, in one-on-one sessions (Solo, from CHF 249/month) or in pairs (Duo, from CHF 169/month per child), with an end-of-programme certificate. To try before committing for the year, a holiday camp (CHF 449, 4 half-days, groups of max 5 children) is also an option.
