Holiday coding camp: the checklist to get your child ready

Your child is signed up for a coding camp during the holidays, and the date is coming up: here's the checklist we give families ourselves, so everything starts smoothly from the very first half-day.

Equipment, to check the night before

  • A computer, not a tablet or smartphone. A PC, Mac or Chromebook all work, as long as a physical keyboard and a real browser are available. Programming, even simplified with Scratch, doesn't work well with a finger on a touchscreen.
  • A stable internet connection. If possible, plug the computer in via cable rather than Wi-Fi during camp week, or at least check the Wi-Fi signal is good in the room being used.
  • Headphones. Essential to hear the teacher clearly and avoid the sound disturbing the rest of the house.
  • A webcam, ideally, so the teacher can see the child in addition to their screen — not required, but it helps build a real connection.

Best practice: turn the computer on the evening before and check that everything works (sound, mic, camera), rather than discovering a problem 5 minutes before camp starts.

The environment, on the day

A child focuses better in a calm space, without a TV on in the background or constant foot traffic. It doesn't need to be a real desk: the kitchen or living room table works fine, as long as the spot stays the same for the whole week (switching rooms every day disrupts their bearings).

Talking with your child before day one

Two or three minutes is enough to:

  • Remind them of the chosen theme (video game, robot, or Python), so they arrive with an idea of what to expect.
  • Reassure them: no prerequisites are needed, the camp is designed for complete beginners as much as for children who've already practiced a bit.
  • Explain the pace: 3-hour half-days, with regular breaks, not one continuous lecture.

On the day

  • Log in 5 to 10 minutes early, to leave time to fix any technical hiccup without stress.
  • Have something to drink within reach.
  • Have a parent reachable in case of a technical question, especially on the first day — no need to stay in the room the whole time.

What if there's a technical issue on the day?

It happens, and it's not a big deal: contact us directly (via WhatsApp or email), our team helps fix it quickly, or reschedules the session if needed. It's never a reason to miss the whole camp.
